How to edit and correct CAD elements in 3Dsurvey

Welcome to 3Dsurvey tutorials.

In this video, we’ll show you how to use the Edit Tool found under CAD functions. This tool is essential for selecting and editing CAD elements, whether you’ve created sketches or taken measurements on a surface. Let’s explore the ways you can utilize this tool effectively.

Accessing the Edit Tool

  • Open the CAD menu in the upper-right selection panel.
  • Click on the Edit Tool icon located at the top-left corner of the menu.

Selecting Elements

  • Choose the elements you want to edit or select a single element.
  • Use the dropdown menu next to the Edit Tool icon to:
    • Select Similar: Automatically select similar elements.
    • Select Similar in the Same Lane: Choose similar elements within a specific layer or category.

Note: Ensure you have selected at least one element before using these functions.

Deleting or Editing Elements

  • To Delete: Select the elements and press the Delete button on your keyboard.
  • To Edit: Utilize various options available in the Element Properties pane (explained below).

Moving a Point

  • Click on the point you want to move.

  • Choose the snapping option for your desired location:

    • Point: Snap to any point in the point cloud (ensure the point cloud is active).
    • Endpoint: Snap to the endpoint of an existing line.
    • Midpoint: Snap to the midpoint of an existing line.
    • Nearest: Snap to the nearest point on an existing line.
    • Center: Snap to the center of an existing circle.
    • Triangle: Snap to any point on a 3D mesh surface (ensure the 3D mesh is active).
  • Left-click to select the new position and confirm with a right-click.

Modifying Element Properties

  1. Open the Element Properties panel (bottom-right corner of the interface).
  2. Make changes as needed:
    • General: Change the layer of an element by double-clicking it.
    • Color: Double-click to choose a custom color or set it to match the layer’s color.
    • Line Weight: Adjust by double-clicking and selecting a preferred option.
    • Attributes: Check whether the line is closed or open.
    • Geometry: Modify geometrical properties.
    • Display Options: Control what information appears on the line (e.g., 3D distance, 2D distance, slope, height). Double-click the status to toggle visibility.
    • Font: Customize the font style for displayed information.

Tips for Efficient Editing

  • Activate only the snapping options you need to avoid confusion.
  • Use the Undo and Redo functions if you make a mistake.
  • Organize elements by layers for better project management.

The Edit Tool in the CAD module of 3Dsurvey is a versatile feature that simplifies element selection and customization. With the ability to move points, adjust properties, and control display settings, it’s a powerful tool for creating accurate and professional designs.
