Enhanced data quality and efficient processing
The Scan module in 3Dsurvey lets you merge and align point clouds from sources like LiDAR, SLAM, photogrammetry, and more. It includes tools for manual and automatic registration, 360° spherical image viewing, X-ray views, and automatic line detection—making it easy to create accurate floor plans and CAD drawings. You can also visualize scan attributes and generate orthophotos, streamlining complex 3D data into clear, usable outputs.
Spherical images support
Spherical Image Support lets you view and interact with panoramic images from SLAM devices directly within your point cloud. Each scan position appears as an interactive sphere to explore in 360°. With full CAD integration, you can measure, annotate, and snap to the point cloud, making inspection and project presentation easier than ever.
Manual registration
Use manual registration when you need to align two 3D models that share similar features. Use the new manual registration wizard to get acquainted with it quickly and efficiently.
Automatic registration
The algorithm works on a principle of minimizing the distance between corresponding points of two point clouds (photogrammetry or LiDAR scan) that represent the same area or object from different viewpoints.
Accuracy: ICP can achieve very accurate alignments, essential for creating precise 3D models and maps.
Automation: While the initial stage is manual, the iterative process is automated, saving time and effort.

X-ray views
Turn 3D point clouds into CAD friendly drawing planes that resemble an X-ray, but with the added benefit of being able to rotate in all directions visible on your screen. Ideal tool for creating accurate floor plans.
Automatic line detection on X-ray
3Dsurvey’s automatic line extraction tool makes it easy to generate building outlines, floor plans, and structural features from point clouds. The tool intelligently highlights the brightest pixels, with adjustable thresholds for precision. Detected lines can be organized into CAD layers, edited, and exported, turning complex 3D scans into clean, usable 2D geometry in just a few clicks.
Additional attributes visualization
You can also visualize additional attributes that come from your 3D scanner. Toggle on the visualization of materials, identify the scanning path or visualize the various points returned. Colors provide a better representation of the mapped area.
Intensity
Scanning time
To include the temporal component of your 3D scan, turn on the Scanning time visualization mode. Available in all of the expanded colormaps, it gives you the idea of how the point cloud was gathered, where the scanning started and where it ended.
Return data
When a single laser pulse encounters multiple reflective surfaces, it generates multiple returns. This value specifies which reflection this data point corresponds to (e.g., first return, second return). The first return from a laser pulse typically corresponds to the highest reflecting object in the path (e.g., treetop, building roof, open ground).

Orthophoto from Point cloud
Create an orthophoto directly from a point cloud. Especially useful for RGB scan data.
Producing orthophotos from point clouds improves the usability and accessibility of captured data, increases visualization and simplifies collaboration and decision-making across various sectors.
