From 24-28 May 2026, the 3Dsurvey team attended the XXVIII FIG Congress 2026 in Cape Town, South Africa, where geospatial professionals from around the world gathered to exchange ideas, explore new technologies, and discuss the future of the surveying and mapping industries. As first-time exhibitors and proud Bronze Sponsors, the event was an exciting opportunity for us to introduce 3Dsurvey to new audiences, strengthen existing relationships, and connect with professionals across the African market and beyond.
A world-class venue and organisation
Hosted at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC), the Congress provided an outstanding environment for networking and collaboration. The venue itself was modern, spacious, and exceptionally well organised, creating the perfect setting for several days of productive discussions and engaging presentations. From the exhibition floor to the conference sessions and networking events, the atmosphere throughout the week reflected the energy and innovation driving the geospatial industry forward.
A busy and dynamic exhibition floor
The exhibition hall was consistently busy, filled with surveyors, engineers, educators, mining professionals, technology providers, and government representatives eager to learn about the latest developments in the field. At Booth 50, the 3Dsurvey team spent the week showcasing how our software helps professionals combine drone imagery, LiDAR scans, and traditional survey data into one streamlined workflow.

Live demonstrations and technical discussions
One of the highlights of the Congress was the opportunity to demonstrate the software live to visitors from a wide range of industries. Many attendees were particularly interested in seeing how 3Dsurvey simplifies data processing and accelerates the production of accurate 2D and 3D deliverables. We demonstrated workflows for topographic mapping, volumetric calculations, terrain modelling, and point cloud processing, while discussing how integrated geospatial solutions can improve efficiency across the entire project lifecycle.
Engaging with education, mining, and industry professionals
The event also gave us the chance to engage directly with professionals working in education and research. Conversations with universities, institutions, and professors highlighted the growing importance of accessible and practical geospatial tools for the next generation of surveyors and engineers. We also had in-depth discussions with professionals from the mining and infrastructure sectors, where accurate and efficient geospatial workflows are critical to daily operations.
Networking, partnerships, and reconnecting with customers
FIG Congress 2026 also created valuable opportunities for networking and business development. We met with existing customers, introduced the software to many new users, and explored potential partnerships. Several discussions focused on possible future projects and collaborative opportunities in regions where geospatial technology adoption continues to grow rapidly.
We were also pleased to reconnect with our existing partner, SOM Survey, who were also exhibiting at the Congress. These face-to-face meetings help strengthen relationships and open new discussions about future collaboration.
A memorable experience in Cape Town
Beyond the exhibition itself, the Congress delivered a memorable overall experience. Cape Town proved to be an exceptional host city, and attendees enjoyed not only the professional programme but also the welcoming atmosphere, vibrant culture, and excellent hospitality throughout the week. The food served during the event was another standout feature, offering delegates a chance to enjoy local flavours while continuing conversations and networking between sessions.
Looking ahead
For the 3Dsurvey team, attending FIG Congress 2026 was about far more than exhibiting software. It was an opportunity to listen, learn, exchange ideas, and better understand the evolving needs of geospatial professionals around the world. The enthusiasm and engagement we experienced throughout the week confirmed the growing demand for integrated, efficient, and accessible surveying solutions.
We would like to thank everyone who visited our booth, attended our live demonstrations, and shared their insights with us during the event. It was a pleasure to be part of such an important global gathering, and we look forward to continuing the conversations and collaborations that began at FIG Congress 2026.
