User Interface Enhancements in 3Dsurvey 4.1

A Fresh, More Intuitive User Interface

With 3Dsurvey 4.1, the user interface has been refined to improve both usability and visual clarity. While the changes may seem subtle at first, they significantly enhance everyday workflows.

One of the most practical additions is the search bar. Simply type a keyword, and your list of recent projects is instantly filtered, making it much faster to find and open the project you need.

Navigation has also been improved. All main tabs are now:

  • Clearly displayed with icons
  • Fully visible within the working panel
  • No longer hidden behind scroll arrows

This means quicker access to tools and fewer clicks during your workflow.

Clear Status Indicators

In the top-right corner, you’ll now find license and cloud status indicators.

These give you immediate insight into:

  • License validity
  • Access to updates and support
  • Cloud connectivity and upload availability

There’s also a dedicated cloud access button, allowing you to quickly view your cloud projects without interrupting your current workflow.

Customizing System Colors

3Dsurvey 4.1 introduces a new Color settings tab, giving you more control over how your workspace looks and feels.

To access it:

Options → Application Settings → Color

Here, you can adjust several visual elements to match your preferences or project needs.

Background Options

Solid Background Color

You can customize the main workspace background color.

  • Example: White background
Ideal for creating clean, print-ready screenshots or reports.

Horizon Background

For a more immersive visual experience, you can enable the horizon background, which simulates a natural environment.

Available options include:

  • Daylight mode – bright and neutral
  • Dusk mode – darker, more dramatic

When combined with auto-rotate, this creates smooth, presentation-ready visualizations—perfect for demos or client showcases.

Contour Line Colors

You can also customize contour line colors to improve visibility and presentation.

For example:

  • Using high-contrast combinations (like blue and white)
  • Enhances readability, especially on dense contour intervals (e.g., 0.5 m equidistance)

This is particularly useful when working with detailed terrain models where clarity is essential.

Profile Line Visualization (Orthophoto Tab)

Within the Orthophoto tab, you can further refine your visualization by customizing profile line colors.

This helps distinguish between:

  • Leading line (main profile direction)
  • Perpendicular lines (cross-sections)

For instance:

  • Set the leading line to magenta
  • Keep perpendicular lines in green

This makes interpretation much clearer at a glance.

Note: These changes apply only within the Orthophoto tab.

Reset Anytime

If your color adjustments become too complex or unclear, you can always use the “Reset to Default” option to restore the original settings.

Key Takeaway

The UI enhancements in 3Dsurvey 4.1 are designed to save time, reduce friction, and improve visual clarity. Combined with flexible color customization, they allow you to tailor the software to your workflow, whether you’re analyzing data, preparing reports, or presenting results.
